It feels like I’ve known you all my life. When you tell me you love me, I feel the weight of that sentiment deep in my soul. It stays with me throughout my days; it makes me stronger.
It is hard to separate my emotional attachment to you, our friendship and the love we share, from my complete admiration for all that you do for our community. I don’t think I need to. You are the bearer of the burden of truth for the entire limb loss community in our area, and beyond. You take on the challenges so others don’t have to. I am in awe of you because of your dedication to the cause, and your constant expectation of a better day tomorrow.
You have stood for everything you believe in, since the day I met you, and you expect no less of me. You hold me, and others around you, to a higher standard, a standard founded in the basic principles of humanity.
You are a constant and consistent teacher and leader. You push me to see things differently. You push everyone around you to be a little more thoughtful. You always show up, and you expect others to do the same. WE, collectively, are a community because of YOU!
While I see you as a friend and a contemporary, you possess a motherly touch that cannot be ignored. I feel safe and sheltered when I am with you. You provide a steady light that guides me in times of uncertainty. You advise me in my darkest moments and celebrate with me in my happiest.
I am so thankful for our friendship, so thankful for your love.
